Digital Media Arts Center Grand Opening at Chapman University
It was an honor to be invited back to Chapman University’s campus for the official grand opening of the Digital Media Arts Center. Completed within an extraordinary seven month compressed schedule, while battling natural obstacles such as 40 mile per hour winds and a 5.1 earthquake, this historic structure now houses some of the university’s most innovative and advanced technologies.
Designed to foster optimal creativity and expression, this building features a 2D Animation Lab which allows hand drawn technique and animation to be done directly on the computer screen; a traditional art studio for those learning color theory and honing their sketching technique through pastels and pencils; and erasable walls that allow for free drawing and sketches which greet you as you come into the building or enter the classroom.
Other elements include the Cloobeck Screening Room, a theater space tailored to film screenings and discussion; six Directing Stages and Cinematography Studios where screening acting and film production students come to collaborate on their thesis and other projects on a professional scale; and the Justin Poulsen’14 Digital Arts Lab complete with the latest Maya software for 3D design and animation.
Catering to one of the fastest growing industries, this building is a testament to Chapman’s commitment to creative growth and career advancement. Having restored its historic dignity in order to encapsulate this engine of creative thinking and learning, Questar extends its greatest wishes to students who utilize the space now and in years to come.
